Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water. Let cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten egg yolks; add 3/4 cup buttermilk alternately with flour. Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk. Add salt, chocolate and vanilla. Finally fold in stiffly beaten whites. Bake in 350° oven until it springs back from touch. |
